General Information

TNFa, IL-1b, IL-6, IL-8, and IL-2R are now available for research purposes only. These cytokines are measured by an automated chemiluminescent assay with very low detection limits. Currently, a minimum of 5 samples are required. Sample requirements and testing information is listed below.

Tumor Necrosis Factor a

Synonyms: TNFa; cachectin
Specimen: Serum (red top) or plasma (green top)
Specimen Handling: Place on ice. Centrifuge and separate from cells immediately. Freeze at —20 or -70°C.
Volume required: 1 mL
Advanced Notice: Requires a minimum of 5 specimens
Method: Chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay
Detection Limit: 1.7 pg/mL
Expected Values: Samples from 58 healthy individuals were assayed. The absolute range of these samples was from non-detectable to 8.1 pg/mL.
Price: $55.00

Interleukin-1b

Synonyms: IL-1b
Specimen:

Serum (red top) or plasma (green top)

EDTA and citrate plasma are not recommended

Specimen Handling: Place on ice. Centrifuge and separate from cells immediately. Freeze at —20 or -70°C.
Volume required: 1 mL
Advanced Notice: Requires a minimum of 5 specimens
Method: Chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay
Detection Limit: 1.5 pg/mL
Expected Values: Samples from 47 healthy individuals were assayed. All samples were below 5 pg/mL.
Price: $55.00

Interleukin-2 Receptor

Synonyms: IL-2R
Specimen:

Serum (red top) or plasma (purple top)

Specimen Handling: Place on ice. Centrifuge and separate from cells immediately. Freeze at —20 or -70°C.
Volume required: 1 mL
Advanced Notice: Requires a minimum of 5 specimens
Method: Chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay; Assay recognizes the 55 kDa a chain
Detection Limit: 10 U/mL
Expected Values: Samples from 120 healthy adults were assayed. The reference range was found to be 200 to 1000 U/mL for adults.
Price: $55.00

Interleukin-8

Synonyms: IL-8
Specimen:

Serum (red top) or plasma (purple top)

Specimen Handling: Place on ice. Centrifuge and separate from cells immediately. Freeze at —20 or -70°C.
Volume required: 1 mL
Advanced Notice: Requires a minimum of 5 specimens
Method: Chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay
Detection Limit: 2 pg/mL
Expected Values: Samples from 50 healthy individuals were assayed. The absolute range of these samples was from non-detectable to 62 pg/mL.
Price: $55.00

Interleukin-6

Synonyms: IL-6
Specimen:

Serum (red top) or plasma (green or purple top)

Specimen Handling: Place on ice. Centrifuge and separate from cells immediately. Freeze at —20 or -70°C.
Volume required: 1 mL
Advanced Notice: Requires a minimum of 5 specimens
Method: Chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassay
Detection Limit: 2 pg/mL
Expected Values: Samples from 75 healthy individuals were assayed. The absolute range of these samples was from non-detectable to 5.4 pg/mL. 74 of the 75 samples (99%) yielded results that were non-detectable (<5 pg/mL).
Price: $55.00
