The department offers a one-year ACGME-accredited program with extensive exposure and experience in fine-needle aspiration biopsy, gynecological and non-gynecological exfoliative cytopathology, as well as application of a wide range of adjuvant technologies to cytological diagnosis and correlations between cytopathologic and surgical pathologic interpretations. The cytopathology laboratory serves the Washington University Medical Center institutions of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children's Hospital. Approximately 25,000 cytologic cases (approximately 29,500 samples) are processed and examined annually, including 5,600 non-gynecologic cases and 1,400 fine-needle aspiration biopsies. Although emphasis is placed on diagnostic cytopathology, academic and research activities are encouraged and supported.

The Cytopathology Fellowship has been filled for 2008-2009. Thank you for your interest.
